The source

Economy tracks the economy over time, from FRED, the U.S. Treasury and the European Central Bank. New workspaces start with it connected.

Coverage

  • About 800,000 U.S. series from FRED, such as inflation, unemployment, interest rates and housing
  • Federal debt, monthly receipts and outlays, and spending by category from fiscal 2015
  • The average interest rate the government pays on its debt
  • Daily exchange rates for over 30 currencies, back to 1999

FRED monthly series are dated the first of the month and Treasury's the last, so match them by month. The fiscal year runs October to September and is named for the year it ends. Exchange rates skip weekends and holidays.

Freshness

FRED refreshes at most hourly. Treasury monthly figures land about the eighth business day. Exchange rates publish each working day. FRED's own exchange rates run about a week behind the ECB's.
